Fazlur Rahman`s view on education

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to examine Fazlur Rahman's views regarding education in a general sense but specially religious education. I have two important points to be considered. One of them is to make a theoretical contribution to the issue of religious education. The other one was to make another contribution to the practical problems by means of the proposals made by Fazlur Rahman. In the first chapter it was dealt with Rahman's thoughts regarding education under the heading of "the defination and aims of education." In the second chapter I have presented his views of the traditional Islamic education which consist of critical analysis related to the curriculum. Here it was tried to understand his thoughts concerning the curriculum through this analysis. In the third chapter I have tried to demonstrate how he saw the situation of the modern Islamic education in Muslim societies. His analysis aims at understanding the reasons that hinder the modernization of islamic education and finding proper solutions for the theoretical and practical problems facing the Muslim societies.
