Film as philosophy: Yin Yang philosophy in Japanese animes

In recent years, it has been seen that there has been an increase in the studies on the relationship between film and philosophy. The most important reason for this issue has been the tendency of film creators and film philosophers to synthesize philosophical ideas and concepts with films. The synthesis of films with philosophical definitions and concepts has contributed to the deepening of film language and cinematic expression. But the fact that the ability of some films in processing philosophical thought is outstanding to others, also has brought with it the question of whether they can be in a position to produce thoughts. In the relationship between film and philosophy, the discussion of "film as philosophy", which focuses specifically on whether film and its derivatives can produce a philosophical thought, constitutes the theoretical basis of this study. In this context, it is questioned whether Hunter X Hunter (2011) by Yoshihiro Togashi, Kimetsu No Yaiba (2019) by Koyoharu Gotōge, Naruto-Naruto Shippūden (2002-2017) by Masashi Kishimoto, and finally Black Clover (2017) by Yūki Tabata from Japanese Animes produce a philosophical idea or argument cinematically. The main claim of the study is that the animes in question accomplish this by making original or repeated philosophical definitions and interpretations on the basis of Yin Yang philosophy. However, these animes, which were found to refer implicitly or explicitly to the Yin Yang philosophy, were included in the study with the Purposeful Sampling Method. The discussion of "film as philosophy", which is the theoretical basis of the study, was tried to be discussed in detail, and in the light of the data obtained from the objections and defenses made here, philosophical forms of analysis for film language were tried to be developed. These forms of philosophical analysis, which were developed to provide a guide to the language of film rather than content, were used as a method when studying Japanese Animes. As a result of the analysis, it is seen that three of the anime are able to make philosophical definitions and interpretations with their own cinematic styles and to present some implicit and explicit arguments. These implicit-explicit arguments, definitions and interpretations are tried to be verified through the philosophy of Yin Yang, which is included as a philosophical background in the third chapter.
