Abstract (EN)

Liberalism is a movement that has had significant effects on human and social life since its emergence. Liberalism, which initially developed as an idea based on the idea of individual freedom, has become an effective trend in the field of economy over time. The idea of liberal economy, which developed especially in the XXth century, has made its impact felt by spreading to different fields. However, the impact of liberalism, which has spread to all areas of life in a global sense, has been reflected in the field of education to a significant extent. In our study, the foundations of liberalism, its effects on human life and its reflections in the field of education are examined. It is aimed to analyse the humanitarian and moral effects of the understanding of education envisaged by liberal movements in a philosophical context. A critical method is followed within the scope of this analysis. In this framework, firstly, the emergence of liberalism, its pioneers and basic concepts are discussed in our thesis. In the second step, the liberal understanding of education is analysed in the context of human phenomenon. In the next step, the liberal education understanding is criticised in a philosophical context. The problems caused by liberal education in terms of human values are discussed. However, in the last analysis, some alternative suggestions are tried to be formed.
