Art education in the context of feminist pedagogy

The field of education needs different pedagogical approaches in line with the needs of the age. Due to its contemporary structure, art education rapidly adapts to these needs and opens up space for new pedagogical approaches. Feminist pedagogy, which is dealt with in contemporary methods, is one of the approaches that has been extensively researched and applied in international literature. However, there are limited studies on applying feminist pedagogy in arts education in the national literature. Based on this gap in the literatüre, the aim is to create a theoretical framework on the association of the feminist pedagogy approach with art education. In the first stage of the research, the reflections of feminist pedagogy on art education were handled from a broad perspective, and various application examples were presented in line with the information obtained from the relevant literature. Thus, it is aimed to present new perspectives in addition to the limited research currently available on feminist pedagogy and arts education within the national literature. In the second stage of the research, the opinions of Anadolu University, Fine Arts Education Department faculty members on the feminist pedagogy approach in art education were taken. In the research, in which the basic qualitative research method was adopted, semi-structured interview questions were revised and used by two experts and the obtained data were analyzed by the descriptive analysis method. Following the research, it has been concluded that the current structure of art education is a suitable basis for applying feminist pedagogy, the feminist pedagogical method is necessary and important in visual arts education, and feminist pedagogy is beneficial for the learning environment and students in visual arts education.
