Biomechanical comparison of three different types of locking intramedullar nail fixation methods used in the treatment of intertrocanteric fractures of the femur

Abstract (EN)

Aim: In our study, it was aimed to biomechanically compare artificial human femurs with femoral intertrochanteric fractures and fixed with 3 different fixation methods. Material and Method: In our study, fixation structures with PROFIN, A-PFN, INTERTAN nails formed three groups and each group consisted of five animal human femur conditions. Evans-jensen type 2 intertrochanteric femur fracture model was created with the help of a cutting motor. Axial loading values for each piece until the pieces break at a speed of 1 mm/min. Fracture load, filtration pattern and amount of rupture at leaching load were not measured. Results: The mean fracture load was 1701.24, ± 80.9 N in the PROFIN group, 1302.43±201 N in the A-PFN group, and 1071.62±106.48 N in the INTERTAN group. The mean displacement values were noted as 32.12±8.8 mm, 30.13±11.85 mm and 17.5±3.62 mm, respectively. Significantly, in terms of fixation strength, the PROFIN group was the most durable, while the A-PFN group took the second place, while the INTERTAN group had the least strength among them Conclusion: As a result of the data we have obtained, it has been shown that the PROFIN group has the most durability in the intertrochanteric fracture model, and the INTERTAN group has the least durability compared to the others.
