The comparison of thinking styles of candidate science teachers in terms of some variables

In this study, it was examined that academic success levels of university students concerning chemistry, their sexualities and ages, highschool types in which they studied, tv programmes they watch, their parents? educational backgrounds, their income and whether there is a sensible difference between thinking style they have in terms of night or daytime programmes. The research is conducted to 81 students who study at Fırat University, Science Teaching Programme of Education Faculty. In this research ?Thinking Style Scale?, which Murat Sünbül translated to Turkish, was used in order to determine the students?thinking styles. This scale consists of 13 sub dimensions of thinking styles and 94 items. The students? marks in Fall Semester in 2009-2010 Academic Year determined their success scores regarding Chemistry. Independent sample t-test and one- way varience anaysis were used in order to analyze the data of the study.According to findings which were obtained from the students? academic success levels , it was determined that the students whose success levels are low in Chemistry, prefer subjective thinking style much more than the students who have higher success levels. It was seen that the female students, who participated in this research, prefer extroverted style of thinking much more than the male students. When we look at the thinking styles depending on age, those who are older prefer holistic thinking style much more than those who are younger. When we look at the thinking styles depending on the highschool types in which the students studied, it was seen that the students who graduated from Anatolia highschools, prefer introverted style of thinking more than those who graduated from the public highschools. It was found out that the students whose mothers have higher educational level, prefer subjective thinking style. Also it was seen that the students who go to school at night prefer normative and introverted thinking styles more than those who study at school at daytime.
