Determination of the conceptions of the science teacher candidates on cell division and quality

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to observe the studies of prospective science teachers about cell division and inheritance in science lesson, to determine whether they have misconceptions about these concepts, the reasons for the misconceptions and what needs to be done to eliminate them. The study was carried out in Erzurum Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Education Faculty in the 2019-2020 Fall semester. 157 pre-service teachers who have been studying science, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade participated in the study. The evaluation test developed by Adıgüzel (2006) was used in the study. As a result of the research, it has been determined by considering various variables that teacher candidates have misconceptions about the functions of mitosis, features of diploid and haploid cells, and the common features of mitosis and meiosis cell division, and suggestions about what are the studies that should be done to overcome these misconceptions.
