Science teachers global climate changes anxiety, awareness levels and affecting factors

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate Science Teachers' global climate change anxiety, awareness levels and factors affecting them. The research is a cross-sectional descriptive study. The population of the study consisted of science teachers in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Mardin province. Data were collected between October 15, 2023 and February 15, 2024. A total of 236 science teachers participated in the study. Face-to-face interview method was used for data collection and the data form was filled in an average of 15 minutes. As data collection tools, "Climate Change Awareness Scale (CCAS)" developed by Ataklı and Kuran (2022), "Climate Change Anxiety Scale" developed by Alan Stewart (2021) and adapted into Turkish by Özbay and Alcı (2021) and personal information form were used. Data analysis was performed with SPSS 27.0 package program. 'Independent Sample t Test', "One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)", "Mann-Whitney U Test" and Kuruskal Wallis variance analysis were used. In addition, 'Pearson Correlation' and 'Spearman Correlation' analyses were used to analyse the relationship between knowledge and skill score averages and the relationship with other numerical data. According to the results of the study, it was seen that science teachers' global climate change awareness levels were affected by demographic characteristics. There was a significant relationship between the global climate change anxiety and awareness levels of science teachers and it was determined that their anxiety levels were high.
