Determination of health literacy levels of science teachers

Abstract (EN)

With the global Covid-19 epidemic occurring in the world, it is seen that there are more orientations on health. Health literacy is an important concept for healthy individuals and societies. This study was conducted to determine the health literacy levels of science teachers. The research was carried out with 117 science teachers between the years 2021-2022. The "Turkish Health Literacy (TSOY-32)" scale consisting of 32 questions was applied to the teachers. SPSS 25.0 for windows package program was used in the analysis of the data. The mean total score of TSOY-32 of the teachers was 35.39±8.10, 7.7% of them had insufficient health literacy, 29.9% of them were problematic-limited, 38.5% of them were adequate and 23.9% of them had was found to be excellent. In addition, there is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of TSOY-32 according to age groups; There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores obtained from TSOY-32 according to the variables of gender, marital status, education level, income status, place of residence for the longest time, evaluation of health, illness requiring regular medication, and the health institution they first applied to in case of any illness. no difference was found. It is recommended to carry out different studies to evaluate the deficient aspects of teachers for the concept of health literacy.
