Abstract (EN)

This research was done to determine the common values of Religious Culture & Ethic and Science & Technology classes. Also it was aimed to compare the way these values were presented in text books. Qualitative research method is used in this study. Study group consists of 8th grade Religious Culture & Ethic and Science & Technology Education Programs and 2 books in each course that are from different publishers. Science & Technology course values are determined by using the "Attitude and Values" learning area that is in Science & Technology curriculum as a reference. Since value sentences in TDs and Religious Culture & Ethic are different than each other, these expressions are converted into the smallest meaningful terms. Content analysis is used to analyze the data. In Science & Technology curriculum, words that mean value were eliminated from the acquisition – value sentences that exists in TD (Attitude and Values) curriculum. The meaning/content of the TD sentences were not changed during this process. With this, while the meaning of sentences are protected, Science & Technology lesson attitude and values are ready to be compared. These value expressions are organized in a table and presented to an expert opinion. The values in two programs were matched and 10 common values were identified. In the last step, implementation of these values in text books was analyzed and findings were presented as texts and tables. According to the findings, common values of Science & Technology and Religious Culture & Ethic classes are different and in some points they were presented with opposite meanings. It was determined that Science & Technology text book reflects positivism while spiritual thinking is not presented as a choice. Another important finding is the common values were given in the texts that contain opposite meanings. On the other hand, humans are presented as they have effect on everything and has infinite power. Religious doctrines talk about human being's limited willpower, and Divine Creator is mentioned as Almighty. While we can discuss many mutual concepts of science -which can be used as a tool to understand the universe- and religion-which is the reason why the universe exists-, philosophical discussions which are about the source of knowledge are considered as breaking point. This causes people to see these two areas as competitors/alternatives. Religious values which is as old as the first human being, and positivist values in science whose effects started around 17th century changed the meaning of common values in their way. It is suggested for text book authors, teachers, schools who educate/train the teachers, program development experts to do studies about the common values and mutual meanings of religious and science. It is also suggested for these people to handle the depth of meaning from different point of views. Key Words: Science and Technology, Religious Culture and Ethics, Curriculums, Education of Values, Religion and Science Common Values
