The effect of using smart board upon academic success and student motivation in science and technology lesson

In this research, the effect of using smart board upon success and motivation is examined in secondary schools. In order to survey academic success factor, `support and movement system? subject , which is available in 6th grade science and technology lesson curriculum, is chosen. In this research, pretest-posttest control group design is used.The research has been realized upon Şehit Fatih Mehmet Keleş Secondary School 6th grades students in the town of Amasya province , Suluova in 2010-2011 educational year (N=34). In the experiment group, which is consist of 17 students, smart board has been used and in the control group, traditional methods of technology-supported have been used in order to tell `Support and Movement System?. The process of application has lasted for 4 weeks. In the research, Likert-type motivation test which has negative and positive items has been used as a data collection tool which is developed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Arif ÖZERBAŞ. Besides, The student information form and Achievement test, which is developed by science and technology teacher Tuğba ŞİRİN, are also used. The data collected by tests of achievement and motivation is analyzed by using sample t-test technique of bound and unbound. Besides, in order to determine the relationship between the data collected from student information form and the data collected from motivation tests, correlation is applied.The results of this study;?When we compare the usage of smart board in the secondary level and the usage of traditional methods of technology-supported, the usage of smart board doesn?t constitue a significant difference,?But it revealed that student?s motivation towards science and technology courses increases.
