The effect of traditional teacher-centred teaching method and cooperative learning method on student's success and attitude

THE EFFECT OF TRADITIONAL TEACHER-CENTRED TEACHING METHOD AND COOPERATIVE LEARNING METHOD ON STUDENT'S SUCCESS AND ATTITUDEIn this research, it?s researched the effects of the Cooperative Learning Method academical sucess and the attıtudes toward lesson of the sixth grade students in primary school.This study sampling consist of fifty-two students in sixth grade class in 2010-2011 academic year in Cumhuriyet Primary School in Darende, Malatya. One of the sixth classes were determined as ?the test group? and the other ?control group?. While lessons were done by Cooperative Learning Method in the test group, they were done by the method of centralized teacher education in the control group. In this research Subject Achievement Test and Survey of the Attitudes Toward Science and Technology were practiced for two groups as premilinary test and final test. Moreover, Survey of Students? Opinions for Cooperative Learning has been applied to test group after the work.The analysis of data was made by using arithmetic average, Independent Samples t-Test and Paired- Samples t- Test.According to the findings of the research; the test group that Cooperative Learning Method were applied is more successful than the control group that the method of cenralized teacher education were applied. In Survey of the Attitudes Toward Science and Technology there hasn?t been seen an important difference between the two groups. But when the premilinary test of the Survey of the Attitudes Toward Science and Technology and last test of the Survey of the Attitudes Toward Science and Technologyhave been compared, it has been seen that the students developed positive attitude for Cooperative Learning.
