Reflections of the measurement and assessment approach in science and technology program in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades lessons and work book

In this study, using frequencies of the measurement and assessment techniques were in the lesson and work books of the 6. 7. and 8. elementary grades, were investigated according to Science and Technology program. In the research process, the lesson and work books were prepared according to Science and Technology program was started to use since 2006 for 6., 7. and 8. grades by A and B press in Turkey. In the study, the data were got for the purpose of determining the using frequencies of the measurement and assessment techniques, were got according to classification of the techniques was formed by Nartgün (2009). Document Analysis was a method from qualitative methods, was used in the study. The measurement and assessment techniques were in the lesson and work books of the 6. 7. and 8. elementary grades, were prepared by A and B press, were counted one by one and the using frequencies of the techniques were determined and the data were interpreted according to learning fields, grade levels and units. According to the results of the study, the product assessment techniques were used in the majority in all of the books were investigated. The short answer tests were used mostly. The alternative assessment techniques were used rarely. Open ended questions were from the process assessment techniques, were used mostly. Especially, V diagram technique was never used. The experiment and performance home works were used mostly for performance assessment but some techniques like portfolio were never used. Self assessment technique was used rarely in the books of A press, on the other hand the self assessment technique was used mostly in the books of B press. But the peer assessment technique never used in the books both presses. The books of the B press was appropriate according to the 6., 7. and 8. grades Science and Technology program was prepared by considered process assessment techniques. According to the results of the study, by taking the lacks of the techniques, some opinions were suggested about providing suitable the books up to the measurement and assessment principles of the constructivist approach.
