The effects of the use of the smart board on 6th grade students academic achievement, attitudes and opinions in the teaching of science and technology

The dissemination of knowledge is fast in parallel with the advancing technology. That's why the constant renewal of teaching programs and materials cames out. Smart Boards are new concept in educational technology world. Education and teaching which have existed student- teacher- school in the triangle many years will perform as a versatile information flow with the addition of Smart Boards. The aim of this study; how the use of Smart Board affects the sixth grade students, academic achievements,attitudes and opinions in the teaching of science and tecnology in primary education schools. The study is a quasi-experimental study and bases on research pattern comprising of control group pre-test and post-test. The sample of study consist of 43 students of sixth th grade in a public school in 2011-2012 academic year. The same lesson is taught with 21 students in the experimental group with the use of smart board- computer-projection and with 22 students in the control group with the traditional method. The practice lasted for 5 weeks. The unit "Particulate Nature of Matter" is chosen as learning domain. In research both quantitative and qualitative datas are gathered. The datas are obtained with " Science and Technology Achievement Test'' and '' The Attitude Scale for Smart Board in Science and Technology Lesson '' through interviews. The quantitative datas are analyzed having utilized SPSS 20.0 statistical packaged software whereas the qualitative datas are analyzed having read by the researcher and gathered under specific themes. The datas are obtained from study include the following the use of smart board is realized not to create the difference between experimental and control groups of students for the unit of the "Particulate Nature of Matter". At the end of this study, it is noticed that the students in experimental group develop a positive attitude to science. The students also opine positive opinions about the use of the smart board. The results obtanied from study shows that the use of Smart Board contribute to the lesson of the teaching of Science and Technology.
