Investigation of science and tecnology teachers' attitudes towards distance education

Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted in 2020-2021 in order to determine the perceptions and attitudes of science and technology teachers towards distance education. The research was carried out during the pandemic process and the sample was determined using the random convenience sampling method. The data of the study conducted with 159 science and technology teachers who teach science and technology courses in different provinces and institutions of Turkey and data of the study is delivered to the participants electronically. The scale was prepared by using the google surveys application and applied to the participants online. Study questionnaire which consists of 3 sections and 50 questions in total; the "distance education perception scale" prepared by Gök and K. Çakmak (2020), the "attitude scale towards distance teaching" by Ağır (2007), and the three items prepared for demographic characteristics and distance education technologies and features are brought together. Frequency and percentage values, normality tests, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance and simple linear correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the analysis, it was observed that the perceptions and attitudes of science and technology teachers towards distance education were at the middle level. There was no significant difference in distance education perceptions and attitudes in terms of gender, professional seniority, department graduated and institution they work for. Again, the majority of the participants stated that distance education did not increase the quality of education. In the study; it is reached as a result that television is the most accessible distance education technology; on the other hand the internet is the most effective distance education communication method; while the most important advantage of distance education is the use of information and communication technologies in education.
