Abstract (EN)
The importance of special boron compounds is increasing day by day in industrial areas that require high technology. Boron hydrides, borates, boranes, elemental boron and fluoroborates are some of the special boron products and each is used for different purposes in different sectors. Fluoroborates are used as pesticides against insects and fungi, as flame retardants, as catalysts in different reactions, in coating solutions, as optical property enhancers in glasses and in many other areas. In the first stage of this study, phenyl fluoroborate, one of the fluoroborates, was synthesized by wet method and the synthesis parameters were determined. Phenol and fluoroboric acid were used as reactants in the synthesis of phenyl fluoroborate by wet method and H2SO4 was preferred as catalyst. Optimum synthesis conditions were determined by examining the effects of reactant mole ratio, temperature and reaction time on the reaction yield. Phenyl fluoroborate was synthesized in 62% yield when the reactant molar ratio (nC6H5OH/nHBF4), temperature and reaction time were adjusted to 2:1, 35 ºC and 90 minutes, respectively. FT-IR and BF4- ion selective electrodes were used for characterization studies. In the second part of the study, the synthesized phenyl fluoroborate was used as a pigment and converted into a solvent-based antifouling paint with an epoxy binder. Turkey is a country surrounded by seas on three sides and antifouling paints used in sea vehicles are gaining importance. The emission limitations of Cu2O2 containing antifouling paints will need to be controlled and will be replaced by environmentally friendly antifouling paints that do not contain copper. Therefore, the boron-containing antifouling paint pigment used in sea vehicles will be synthesized from national sources for the first time and it is important for its development. Antifouling paint applied to the metal surface was successful in terms of applicability and the antibacterial activity of the paint was investigated using the agar disc diffusion method. While there is no antibacterial property due to diffusion in the sample in the form of paint, phenyl fluoroborate pigment showed antibacterial properties.
