Abstract (EN)

The textile industry, which is among the basic needs of daily life all over the world, is one of the most important elements of international trade due to these features. In general, considering the production capacity, the variety of products produced and the characteristics of the products, it is extremely important to evaluate the environmental impact and sustainability of the textile industry. A wide variety of substances are used in the production of the textile industry, depending on the formulation of the product groups, but the main component of the product is water. Water used in sizing, washing and desizing, bleaching, mercerization, dyeing and finishing processes constitute wastewater of great importance due to its potential environmental effects. In this study, the treatment of textile industry wastewater with organic matter and color content by Fenton and Photo-Fenton oxidation methods was investigated. In Fenton oxidation treatment studies, it was observed that the best COD, TOC and color removal was at 200 mg/L Fe2+ and 300 mg/L H2O2 concentration and pH 3. Fe2+/ H2O2: 200/300 as mg/L and pH 3 in the treatment of textile industry wastewater by Fenton oxidation, 90.4% COD, 84.2% TOC, 91.6% UV254, 90.6% UV280, 98.4% RES436, 99.3% RES525 and 99.6% RES620 removal could be achieved, while 93.2% COD, 88.9% TOC, 97.2% UV254, 96.2% UV280, 97.5% RES436, 99.7% RES525 and 99.9% RES620 by Photo-Fenton oxidation were provided. When Fe2+ and H2O2 concentrations decreased until Fe2+/ H2O2: 50/75 mg/L, organic matter and color removal by Fenton oxidation decreased significantly, while treatment continued with Photo-Fenton oxidation. As a result, organic matter and color removal can be achieved with Fenton oxidation for longer periods or higher Fe2+ and H2O2 use, while Photo-Fenton oxidation provides treatment with the use of Fe2+ and H2O2 in a shorter time.
