Thematic and etymological vocabulary of Fethali Kacar Dictionary

Chagatai Turkish, named after Genghis Khan's son Chagatay, is the Eastern branch of Turkish between the 14th century and the end of the 19th century. Many poets and writers wrote their works in this Turkish language. As a matter of fact, the language and literature pioneer of Chagatai Turkish was the writer and poet of this period, Ali Şir Nevayi. Various dictionaries have also been written to understand Neyavi, who deeply influenced both the period and the writers and poets who grew up in the following periods. Fethali Kaçar Dictionary, which has been studied on, is one of these dictionaries. The study consists of the thematic and etymological examination of the Chagatai Turkish Dictionary of Fethali Kaçar, one of the Chagatai Turkish dictionaries. The dictionary is handled in a certain order. In the first of the stages, which can be described as three stages in general, information is given with Chagatai Turkish and dictionaries of this period. In the second stage, the thematic classification of the dictionary was made. In this section, the dictionary is classified into nouns, descriptive concepts, function elements, exclamation and reflections, and verbs. Then, these titles were divided into necessary sub-titles and thematic classification was completed. The names are divided into 23 sub-titles (1. Names related to human and society, 2. Names related to hunting, military service, war and turmoil, 3. Names related to plants, 4. Names related to animals, 5. Position, office and professions. 6. Names related to accommodation and accommodation, 7. Names related to equipment and goods, 8. Names related to food and beverage, 9. Names related to color, 10. Names related to time-duration, 11. Geographical names, 12. Proper names, 13. Names related to astronomy, 14. Names of place-direction, 15. Names denoting measure-quantity, 16. Names of numbers, 17. Names related to body and limb, 18. Religion, metaphysical and fate-related names, 19. Art, literature and music-related names, 20. Disease, health and leisure-related names, 21. Economy, trade and property-related names, 22. Administration and administration-related names, and 23. Mineral, mineral, element and precious stones). The second part of the classification is the terms denoting attributes. This area is also divided into two sub-titles (qualifications expressing feeling-emotion, thought and perception, and qualifications declaring state-state, shape-form and movement). Then, the elements in another heading were examined, and exclamations and reflections were discussed in another section. Finally, verbs are discussed under three main headings (simple verbs, derived verbs and compound verbs). All the words found afterwards were analyzed etymologically. In the classification, 7343 words that were found suitable for thematic classification were determined. Of these, 4038 are nouns, 1251 are terms denoting qualifications, 128 are functional items, 51 are exclamations and reflection words, and 1809 are verbs. On the other hand, there are 66 words that are not thematically classified. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the dictionary of Fethali Kaçar, which is the largest Chagatai Turkish dictionary written in the Iranian geography, as a theme and origin.
