Irony in Feyyaz Kayacan's stories

In this study, in which the stories of Feyyaz Kayacan are discussed, the place of the art of irony in Feyyaz Kayacan's stories is emphasized. Feyyaz Kayacan is one of our writers who left his mark on Turkish short story writing after 1950. The author, who studied abroad and knew Western literature, was influenced by surrealists and modernist novelists. In addition to the surreal images that we can see intensely in the writer's works, the presence of an ironic point of view is also intensely felt. Relations of the individual with society, the social acceptance problem experienced by disadvantaged individuals, II. The author, who handles the World War with the possibilities of irony and works in his works, has included the art of irony by using humor, comparison, contradictions and dualist structure. The art of irony, which has its roots in Turkish literature but is not used as in Western literature, is mostly found as word irony in the stories of Feyyaz Kayacan. The author made irony with puns, by breaking the structure of idioms and proverbs, sometimes with misunderstandings as in Socratic irony. In this way, he reflected the individuals who were marginalized by the society, who kept a distance from social acceptances and who had problems with mental and physical health by using the element of humor. While doing this, he did not make the problems people were in the subject of criticism, and created a humorous atmosphere by making irony from the mouths of the people. The stories of Feyyaz Kayacan examined in the context of irony in this study are also very important in terms of revealing his unique contribution to Turkish literature. The author treats all social events with an ironic perspective and tries to reveal their effects on the individual. In our study, we tried to show how Feyyaz Kayacan uses irony.
