Abstract (EN)
Keywords; Israel, Zionism, Palestinians, British Mandate, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Intifada. Zionism emerging as a result of nationalism started the process that caused the establishment of the State of Israel. Jews settling in Palestine with the help of British Mandate established the State of Israel in accordance to the UN's Partition Plan in 1948. As soon as the Jewish State established, Egypt, Syria and Jordan attacked Israel. However, Arab countries lost the war and some Palestinian territories allocated for Palestinians in the UN's Partition Plan. The result of the 1967 Arab Israeli war was a disaster for the Arab World. Israel encroached upon Gazza Strip, West Bank including East Jerusalem, Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights. After the 1967 war, Israel began to construct Jewish settlements in the occupied territories and refused peace negotiations with the Arabs. The 1973 Arab Israeli war was a watershed for the Arab Israeli question and started the process culminating in the Israel-Egypt peace treaty of 1979, a direct result of the Camp David Accords. The Israeli invasion of Lebanon aiming to destroy the Palestinian Liberation Organization's infrastructure and expel it from Beirut in 1982 and Intifada, the Palestinian uprising, strengthened peace camps in Israel and opened the road going to the peace process in 1993.
