A research on financial literacy level: The case of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University

This study was carried out in order to determine the financial literacy levels and financial attitudes and behaviors of the students of the Banking and Finance Department and the Theology Faculty of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University. A survey was conducted on 425 students from different demographic characteristics and from Banking and Finance Department and Theoloogy Department in order to research affect of educational background on financial literacy. The data obtained was subjected to Independent Sample T-test and One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). As a result of the analyzes made, it was determined that the financial literacy level of the students was moderate. It was detected that there were statistically significant differences between the genders of the students and their financial literacy. It has been found that the financial literacy of male students is higher than that of female students. In addition, it was concluded that there were significant differences between the department, age, class, family income level, credit card use and financial literacy of the students. It has been determined that the students' financial attitude point averages are at a moderate level, and their financial behavior point averages are at a meritorious level.
