Geological characteristic and economical potential of lymra marble at Finike region (Western Taurides)

The aim of the study is to determine the stratigraphic position of lymra marble levels that present Finike-Turunçova region, to set the facies changes to establish the geological and productive characteristics that belong to open pit mine and underground marble quarry and also to assign the most effective levels for the production point of view. After the examination of the samples belong to radiolites, the age of lymra marble is accepted as Santonian-Campanian. At lymra marble levels five facies (packstone facies, mudstone facies, floatstone facies, wackestone facies, wackestone-packstone facies) are defined. In the light of these definitions, it is determined that lymra is present on the standard microfacies type as SMF8, SMF9, SMF10. The SMF that is defined indicate that the lymra marbles are formed in the open platform. According these data facies definitions divides the lymra marble in three parts as bottom, middle and top. The bottom level having 13.9 meters height and at which wackestone facies is dominant includes the most effective levels for the production point of view. At middle level having 37,2 meters height, packstone. In this point where fossil content and silis concentration increase and intraformational levels become dense, the production efficiency is lower in comparison to bottom level. On top point having 23,6 meters height, the floatstone facies is dominant and consistutes as overburden strata surface. The high points including rudist, carstic spaces and intraformational levels indicates that the area is not suitable to underground operating for the stratigraphic point of view.
