Measuring occupational health and safety performance of companies using multi-criteria decision

Despite taking a series of corrective actions to prevent the possible hazards from occurring at work, injuries and work-related illnesses are a global issue in manufacturing and service industries nowdays. Mishaps and their unfortunate consequences have been enlightening us for long time, and we have acquired knowledge from social and economic results. Preventive measures in the context of occupational safety and health have been progressing, and the preliminary actions decreased the number of accidents in manufacturing and service operations. Similarly, new safety laws and legislation were enacted especially in industrialized countries to force businesses to create safety plans of buildings and to take actions against occupational risks. As the organizational systems progressed, multi-disciplinary approaches such as ergonomics were built to cope with the complexities of the operations associated with several mishaps. Furthermore, occupational health, safety and management systems (OHSMSs) were founded to overcome the threats of main catastrophes and health issues in many industries. Having this in mind, as OHSMSs evolved, there has been a necessity to assess the performance of these systems. It is argued that the preliminary phase of such an assessment may be to identify the right indicators and employ them using industrial expert data. To this end, methodology to achive this research is as follows: (1) to gather and scan a list of performance indicators in the context of OHS, (2) Calculating the ratings of the scanned indicators and prioritize them using Entropy Method based on quantitative analysis, (3) Then we evaluate the occupational health and safety performance of a company comparatively using TOPSIS, and (4) Finally the discussion of research will result in an assessment of the performance.
