Abstract (EN)

Throughout history, the colours have always had a significant role in the world of humans. The act of permanently dying a material is called "colouring" and the dying materials are called "colourants." Since the first ages, humans have gathered colourants firstly from the flowers and later from the leaves, fruit, stems and roots. Although they once greatly lost importance due to the rise of their synthetic counterparts, natural paints and natural ways of dying have regained their significance as cancer cases ramped up and the love for nature has become popular. The research by the European Union shows that plant-based dyes would make up of 15% of all textile dyes. There are approximately 150 plants in Turkey suitable for use in dying. Our goal is to extract pigments from a dying plant rather than to use the actual plant itself and use it as a colourant in the textile industry. In this study, nutshell has been used, of which our country is the biggest producer as agricultural waste. Our goal is to gather the colourant in the nutshell in the shortest time and with the lowest cost possible. First, the nutshell is dried and prepared for extraction. Later, the extract of the colourant would be gathered through extraction using different methods. The solvent of the gathered colourant would be evaporated using an evaporator and it would be converted to a powdered colourant. This way, the analysis of the natural powdered colourant would be carried out. After all these tests, a colour chart of different natural colourants that could dye fabrics like cotton, wool, silk and fibre would be brought into the open. Benefiting from that gathered natural colourant and agricultural waste, people living in rural areas would have the opportunity to have additional income and would contribute added value to the economy.
