Experimental study on the effect of photobii̇oreactor window systems on shading in buildings

Abstract (EN)

Today, various studies are carried out to increase thermal comfort and reduce the energy consumed for cooling with shading elements in buildings. In previous years, it was tried to reduce the effect of sunlight by directing the buildings according to sunlight or using glasses with different properties. In recent years, there have been studies on shading using green facades. Photobioreactor façade systems (PBR) are one of the latest examples of this. Microalgae grown in PBR systems both reduce carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere and can be used as biofuel and food material. In this study, the Photobioreactor window system was integrated into the wooden structure built at ½ scale. Two single-span wooden building models with a base of 1.5 m × 2 m and a height of 1.5 m were constructed. A window of 50×50 cm and an outer door of 45 cm×100 cm are fitted to both models. Photobioreactor window system was integrated into one of the 2 models with the same properties and made using the same material, and its effect on shading, indoor temperature, daylight, humidity factor and thermal comfort was compared with the other control model. In addition, it is planned to reduce other greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, in the indoor and outdoor air of buildings with microalgae, which is a renewable energy source. The data obtained in the study show the feasibility of photobioreactor window systems in terms of shading effect and many other factors in buildings. It has been seen that photobioreactors can be integrated into the discipline of architecture by using them on building facades and supporting them with interior designs.
