Total quality management in geographic data production by photogrammetric method

Developed countries take important steps on information community project. Also in Turkey,e-Government Project has been started. In geographical information area, action 47 and 36has been start up and whole process of geographical issues is reengineered. It is easy toassume that, during e-Government period, geographical data and information will be demandmore.GIS technologies should be used for all geo-related projects. It is essential to evaluate geoinformation accordingly. Main geo-information is existing situation of cities, with other saybase maps. They should be produce in compliance with total quality approach. Customer?sand next user?s views should be taken into account, during each step of geo-informationproduction steps. In electronic age, it is possible to use electronic devices and software forgeo-information projects but also advanced management systems should be required. This ismain requirement for success.In this study, TQM approach and Quality Management System of ISO 9001:2000, ISO 19100has been investigated in detail and applied to geographical data production, especially tophotogrammetric mapping production system.It is pointed out that, main factor on quality of geo-information is management aspects oforganization. To produce geo-information with quality, organization should take into accountcustomer satisfaction, focus on quality for whole process, participation of personnel tomanagement and applying quality management system.Key words: Photogrammetry, GIS, Total Quality Management, ISO, Customer Satisfaction.
