Abstract (EN)
Since the ancient times, human beings have been used mathematics and geometric shapes, in each object they have been created. Nature's complicated and geometric variations have been an endless inspiration for art practice from past to present. Whatever the oxygen is for the trees is, it is the soil for the ceramic artist. Since the moment that the ceramic artist started to shape the soil, she/he makes the soil wander in the eternal realm of imagination. However, the nature, which is the inspiration source in the production process, is filled with complicated shapes. Classical Euclidean geometry is inadequate to explain these complicated shapes of the nature. Fractal geometry, on the other hand, allows us to solve the nature's indefinable complexity. Fractal is a common name for the complex geometric shapes that shows the characteristic of self-similarity. These shapes are the ones that Euclidean geometry fails to explain. In fractal geometry, there is fidelity, sensitive to preliminary conditions and self-similarity. Fractals, that have random and chaotic shapes, brought a new perspective to the concept of composition in ceramics. It liberates the artist from basic geometric perception and enables her/him to model according with the awareness of complex forms that seem irregular. With these features that the fractal provides to the artist, she/he can make her/his artwork clearer and exhibits complex modular structures to the audience with more harmony.
