Abstract (EN)
After Japan, France is the world's largest manga market and one of the most important centers of manga culture in the West. Starting in the 1970s and growing rapidly since the 1990s, manga publishing has interacted with the French comics (bande dessinée) tradition, transforming both the publishing industry and cultural production. The rise of manga in France is not only a commercial success story, but also the result of a cultural dialogue that has left a lasting mark on artistic expression, narrative techniques and youth culture. French readers have embraced manga not only as an entertainment format, but also as a literary and visual art form. This interest influenced local comic book artists, leading to the incorporation of manga elements into the traditional French comic book aesthetic. Moreover, with the popularization of manga culture, festivals, exhibitions and academic studies organized in France have further deepened this interaction. This article analyzes the historical development of manga publishing in France, its publishing strategies and its multi-layered impact on French culture. How manga is integrated into French art, literature and popular culture, as well as France's role in the global manga industry will be discussed. In conclusion, France's openness to manga culture can be seen as a reflection of the importance it attaches to cultural diversity.
