Comparative analysis of place markers in French and Turkish and teaching place markers in Turkish as a foreign language

This research aims to describe forms of expression of space in Turkish by considering the forms of expression in French; and relying on these descriptions, to prepare course materials on place markers in Turkish as a Foreign Language. With this aim, we made descriptions on general characteristics of lexical units that express the space in Turkish, by taking into account the equivalents of those in French.Space, having an important place in people?s daily lives attracts the attention of several disciplines and has always been the subject of different researches. For this reason, in the first place, we mentioned about the definitions of space in several disciplines such as linguistics, philosophy and geography and discussed the position of space in its historical process.Though, ?space? is expressed by different lexical units in different languages, it presents the same characteristics in semantic level. In this context, we made some descriptions on the general characteristics of space. In the following chapters, relying on the French descriptions, we tried to make descriptions of expression of space in Turkish.In the last chapter of this research, with the help of the aforementioned descriptions, we tried to prepare some course materials in teaching the grammatical structures that express the space in Turkish as a foreign language.
