Abstract (EN)

IV ABSTRACT The communication and information technologies developed in recent years have started to be widely used in every aspect of our lives, and they inevitably entered in the educational environment. These new technologies provide access to every kind of information, and they make it possible to communicate and share information with people from different parts of the world; therefore, theses technologies would create learning environments. Among these technologies are digital televisions, cell phones, cd-roms, and most importantly, the Internet. The Internet affects the teaching and learning process by having multimedia features (audio, visual, written, etc.) and being interactive. By providing services of searching, having and publishing information (Web, search engines), services of communication (e-mail, discussion groups), and services of interaction (chat rooms, video communication), the Internet helps teachers to be prepared for their lessons, or it contributes to the student's learning; and it especially opens the doors of school and classroom to the outer world. Briefly, the Internet plays an active role in the teaching and learning environment. It is not possible to leave foreign language education out of this frame because the Internet services are quite available for teaching and learning a foreign language. Foreign language teaching has always renovated its teaching materials and used new technologies, and it has always tried to use the most appropriate way to teach a language. However, when it is considered that the communicative method has been taken as the most appropriate way of teaching a language since 1970s, the Internet is expected to meet the requirements of this method to be used effectively in the field of foreign language education. The review of literature suggests that the educational situations, where this new technology might be efficiently used, have already been adopted by communicative methods. Furthermore, the same review suggests that it is possible to use Internet in the field of French foreign language education andindicates that students can use the Internet as an individual tool for learning French foreign language. However, the fact that the Internet is an appropriate tool for French foreign language education cannot be the only reason for using it inside or outside the classroom; students' attitudes towards the tool are also very important. In this study, 85 students learning French as a foreign language were given a questionnaire in order to identify their attitudes towards the Internet. The results of the study revealed that the students of French foreign language have positive attitudes towards using the Internet individually or in the classroom environment.
