The purpose of this study was to predict the physiologic load of the competitionby the physiologic parameters that was estimated under labaratuary conditions. In thisstudy the physiologic profiles of the top-class referees officiating at the Turkish firstleague were estimated (n=16). The referees were tested both during the officialcompetitions and by labarotuary tests. The mean age was 29.1±4.7. The heart ratesduring the match were monitored by a short range radio telemetry. Further, blood lactateconcentrations were examined from the blood samples that were taken before,at the endof the first period and at the end of the match. At the end of these tests, 3 differentphysiologic loads were predicted; 1) Physiologic load was predicted according to HR bycorreleating the mean HR that were estimated during the match, and the maximal HRthat were estimated during labarotuary tests. The VO2max measurements were tested byan incremental test at the labaratuary after the official matches. The lactate thresholdswere estimated by a submaximal 2-4 mmol.-1 lactate threshold tests. 2) At the end ofthese measurements, the physiologic load of the match was predicted by HR-VO2relationship that were estimated at the labaratuary and the mean HR during the match(r:0.80). 3) The same relationship was applied the HR values that were obtained by 2-4mmol-1 tests, and the physiologic load was predicted considering those threshold values.Consequently, the physiolologic strain during the match was predicted as %82,34±3.94according to maxHR. According to HR-VO2 relationship, VO2max was predicted as%77,30±11,11. The physiologic load corresponding to 2mmol-1 LT predicted as%60,39±7,82 of the VO2max, the physiologic load corresponding to 4mmol-1 LTpredicted as %86,14±6,76 of the VO2max.Keywords: Soccer, soccer referees, oxygen uptake, anaerobic threshold, heartrate, blood lactate concentration, intermittent exercise
