An investigation into the relationship between football players' psychological resilience and goal commitment levels

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the psychological resilience and goal commitment levels of football players aged 18 and above in relation to various demographic and athletic variables. It further analyzed the relationships and predictive power among these variables through comprehensive statistical methods. Method: A total of 314 football players, including 285 males and 29 females, participated in the study. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults, and the Goal Commitment Scale. To analyze the data, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to determine differences in psychological resilience and goal commitment based on athletic success. Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess relationships between variables, while regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the predictive power of the independent variables on the dependent variables. The level of statistical significance was set at p < .05. Findings: The results revealed statistically significant differences in psychological resilience based on gender and educational background. However, no significant differences were found in goal commitment levels with respect to these variables. Moreover, psychological resilience and goal commitment levels did not significantly differ based on variables such as being a national athlete, athletic success status, age, or football experience (playing duration). Conclusion: The findings revealed a low-level positive correlation between athletes' psychological resilience and goal commitment. Moreover, psychological resilience was found to predict goal commitment; however, the magnitude of this predictive effect was limited.
