ABSTRACT PhD THESIS GEOLOGICAL SITE SELECTION FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE IN SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA PROJECT (GAP) AREA M.Irfan YEŞILNACAR DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGICAL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hasan ÇETİN Year : 2000, Pages: 113 Jurry : Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hasan ÇETÎN Assist.Prof.Dr. Erdal AKYOL Assist.Prof.Dr. Tolga ÇAN Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) is growing with an increasing acceleration and also contributing to the industry, urbanization and other sectors from the point of investments. The waste materials produced by the industry and urbanization activities are given randomly to the input environment, which causes various environmental problems. This study is related to hazardous domestic disposals dumped to the field without any planning which actually requires the sanitary landfill process. It is a preliminary investigation that suggests a geological site selection. According to the statistical figures about waste inventory in this stud}7, the amount of hazardous waste materials is around 5955 ton per year. Based on the criteria such as geological, geomorphological, topographical, soil, earthquake and other related factors, the site selection was classified into five different places in the region. According to this classification, the most convenient and inconvenient areas to be used as the site for landfill are denoted with figure 1 and 5, respectively, on the map. According to the results of this study, hazardous waste management must be investigated in detail immediately, since it is of vital importance both for the region and the health of the people who are live there. Key Words: Southeastern Anatolia Project (SEAP), Hazardous Waste, Site Selection.
