Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine whether patients with esophagitis or gastritis who had endoscopy for gastric esophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms had any association with supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias. Methods: We enrolled 118 patients who underwent endoscopy because of GERD symptoms between 01/02/2017-01/09/2018. According to endoscopy result some patients have gastritis or esophagitis and in some patients endoscopy results were normal. All patients included 24-hour rhythm holter and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Structural heart disease excluded. At 24-hour rhythm holter, arrhythmias were determined and the presence of atrial and ventricular premature beats were determined and the number was counted. Patients were divided into three groups: those without esophagitis and / or gastritis (control), esophagitis with GERD, and gastritis with GERD. Results: As a result of the multivariate analysis we conducted to determine the parameters related to APK and VPK development; parameters having independent relations with APK; the association of GERD and esophagitis (OR (CI 95%) = 8.657 (3.151-23.782); p <0.001) was associated with GERD and gastritis (OR (CI 95%) = 24.552 (4.954-121.68), p <0.001). The parameters that had independent association with VPK were age (OR (CI 95%) = 1.034 (1.001-1.069) years, p = 0.043), GERD + esophagitis (OR (CI 95%) = 3.089 (1.194-7.992) p = 0.020) and GERD + gastritis (OR (CI 95%) = 6.716 (2.232-20.213), p = 0.018). Conclusions: Esophagitis or gastritis with GERD have an independent association with atrial premature contraction (APK) and ventricular premature contraction (VPK). Therefore, these two gastrointestinal pathologies should be suspected in the presence of undetectable APK and/or VPK. Keywords: Gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophagitis, gastritis, rhythm holter, atrial premature contraction, ventricular premature contraction
