The students' of handcrafts department of Vocational Education Faculty of Gazi University capacity in constituting a product and determining the factors effecting the formation of product

ABSTRACT In this research, the students' of handcrafts department of vocational education faculty of gazi university capacity in constituting a product and determining the factors effecting the formation of product are aimed. The scope of this research is constructed by students studying at handcrafts department of vocational education faculty of gazi university in 2002- 2003 fall season. 4 th year students are taken to the sampling of the research. Study is a descriptive search based on scanning model. Two different type of likert scale are prepared to gather data for the search. Furthermore, researcher had attended the "technology of hand embroidery and workshop II" lesson, observing the students and those observations were used. At the end of the education season, product mediation of 37 students in research range and evalution of their own capacity is asked. The students' capacity of in forming is also evaluated with the same product evaluation scale. The scale, produced only for determining the factors for forming the product, had only been applied on students. In analyzing the search data frequency and percentage distribution are taken for personel information. The data, obtained with product evaluation scale, are examined according to variables in the search, "t test" is done todetermine if there is a significant difference between students evaluating their quality's capability in forming product and researcher's evaluating them In analyzing the factors that effect students' forming product, mean and standard deviation of each factor's substances are taken. mAccording to the research results, it is observed that there are significant differences between students and researcher's evaluations. Related to the data, students don't obey their qualities' capability enough. In general, according to the students' and researcher's evalution results, quality capacity of students is "medium sufficient" level on technical and design basis. Although students see themselves "fairly sufficient" level in creativity, researcher evaluates as "medium sufficient" leveL When the results of factors effecting students' product forming are examined, it is seen that students don't have difficulty in remembering the techniques and student believe that they have enough information and capacity in the field. It is seen that students don't have difficulty in supplying materiel for their planned product. However, they suffer from lack of lesson tools in the workshops. It is observed that students believe that they develop themselves with positive critique on new ideas and tolerance when they are mistaken. However, students ideas that are welcomed in design stage need more effort in product development. IV
