The impact of art training lessons that are in the curciculum of decorative arts training

IV SUMMARY In this research, the effects and contributions of 3rd and 4th year students on product design of field of study, who attend the Fundamental Art Education, which is related to art education, and fashion design lessons given at Gazi University, Faculty of Education, Handcrafts Education, Program of Decorative Arts Teaching, are studied. 101 students are subject to this research study. In order to display the effects of lessons of arts education on product design, we primarily applied tests and surwey to measure their competence and ideas. The students are also asked to practice their skills. While analyzing the outcoming data, percentage, freguency, curve and standard deviation are used. According to the research clues, in the fist sub-problem of this research the students were asked to what extend did they see themselves successful at their product design skills. While searching for an answer to this guestion, the perception of these students were all observed and interpreted under the light of their creativity, technical knowledge, design factors and principles. The students consider that their skill for product design and creativity is on the average, however they assert that their tecnical knowledge and use of design factors and principles is satisfying. In the second sub-problem of this research, students are asked about the competence of developing their product desing skills related to their education process. The students believe that product design eduation in their own field of study process is more effective on their product design skills than arts education process. The evaluations show that students believe arts education is on average, on the other hand, field of study education is highly important for them in the third sub-problem of this research, it is guestioned whether the success in the Fundamental Arts Education which takes plase in teaching programs, Leather Wear-Home Accessories lessons and Fashion Design lessons contribute on the success of those students product design. Besides, the success of the students in these lessons is boht separately and altogether depicted. İt is clear that lessons for Leather Wear andHome Accessories have positive impacts on their product design skills. İt is also clear that, Fundamental Arts Education and Fashion Design lessons have no concrete positive impact on those students product design skills. The fort sub-problem of this research includes the effect of the students creativity, and their use of tecnical and aesthetic skills on product design. And also, boht separately and altogether, the effects of those skills on product design are figured out. Creativity, skill of technical and aestetic knowledge affects one by one or altogether what they design. The more creative, skillful on technical and aesthetic knowledge, the higher the guality of their work gets. All factors are egually important on their design, however higher technical knowledge brings more success. According to these studies it is clear that students are not competent enough to transfer their knowledge of arts education to their field education. Besides, it is also clear that the students who lack enough information underestimate the conributions and necessities of those lessons. As students who compose this research are not accepted to this teaching program after having taken a competence exam and as they are not tested in their pre-university years about their information on arts, this resut is a normal outcome. Therefore, it is important to give the needed importance to arts education, and to integrate the importance of the contributions and necessities of these lessons within the teaching plans as separete units, and to maximize the sessions, and maximize product design of study in arts education and ' to make a correlation between the process of product design of field study with the process of arts education are important subjects that need to be underlined once more. When students combine their skills and tecnical knowledge of their field of education, knowledge and skills of arts education, then expected behavior and success will come out in product design.
