Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to determine using of family plannig methods and affecting factors of women aged 15-49 year-old living in Gaziantep Binevler Health Center regionThe population of this descriptive cross-sectional study was 11944. The sample size was determined as 1934 women and it had been interviewed with 1926 of them (99.6%) between 11.11.2006-17.02.2007. The questionnaire including 42 question was applied by face to face interviewing technique. In the questionnaire there was questions about socio demographic characteristic, pregnancy history and knowledge, attitude and using of family plannig methods. Data were analyzed by using Chi-Square, Student T, variance analysis, Fisher?s Exact tests and logistic regression analysis in SPSS 13.0The mean age of women was 32.5±0.2. The most of women were in 25-29-year-old age group (21.0%) and 30-34 year-old age group (20.3%). Although the mean age at first marriage was 19.01±0.1 year, 64.5% of women had been married in the 15-19 year-old age group. The mean age at first pregnancy was 20.8±0.1 years. Of women in the study, 88.6% were housewives, 49.8% had completed elementary education, 90.7% were at nuclear family, 97.4% had civil marriage, 25.5% had consanguineous marriage, 70.4% had social security and 68.5% were at medium economic situationThe mean numbers of pregnancy, live birth, spontaneous and induced abortion and death birth were 2.7±0.043, 2.24±0.034, 0.25±0.015, 0.14±0.011 and 0.05±0.006, respectively. It was determined that the 85.7% of them had antenatal careOf women in the study, 96.5% had heart any of family planning (FP) methods, these methods were as follows: oral contraceptives (95.1%), intrauterine devices (IUD) (93.1%), condoms (88.1%) and withdrawal (81.2%). It was found that of the women 40.8% received information about FP from neighbors/friends and 33.1% from health personnel. It was found that of the women 55.6% had used a FP method, 50.0% had used an effective method in the past. These methods were as follows: oral contraceptives (44.1%), IUD (29.3%) and condoms (12.6%). The causes of giving up methods had used in the past were health problems (60.6%), wish for another child (14.9%), husband refusing (7.3%). The percentage of women who were currently using any FP methods and effective FP methods were 75.7% and 59.4%, respectively. These methods were as follows: IUD (29.5%), condoms (27.3%), withdrawal (20.2%), oral contraceptives (11.5%) and others (12.5%). The causes affected choosing of FP methods were reliability (43.2%), health status (22.7%), easiness of using the method (21.0%) and the others (13.1%). The most assurance place of any effective FP methods was health centers (41.8%). The factors affecting currently using of FP methods significantly were women?s age, civil marriage, economic status, pregnancy, number of live birth, wish for another child, desired of child number and information sourcesIt is essential to increase percentage of using effective FP methods by focusing on FP servicesKey Words: 15-49 age married woman, Fertility situation, Family planning
