Gaziantep wedding

Marriage ceremonies, which are seen as one of the transition periods of Turkish culture (birth - marriage - death); It is one of the basic elements that brings together people who do not know each other fully within the framework of traditions and customs, strengthens and reinforces the social ties between these people, fully recognizes the Turkish cultural heritage they have, and ensures that they are transferred to the young generations through traditions, customs, marriage ceremonies and rituals. Marriage ceremonies apart from the function of uniting people; It also undertakes the functions of having a good time, having fun and entertaining, supporting the rules of society and transferring them to future generations, and getting rid of personal and social pressures. In this study, which was prepared to determine these functions and to reveal the stages of marriage ceremonies, research was carried out with the idea that a common wedding model could be created with the samples taken from Anatolia and Rumeli geography and other regions where Turkish communities lived. This study, which examines Gaziantep marriage ceremonies, consists of an introduction and three parts. The importance of the phenomenon of marriage, which is included in the study areas of folklore and the explanation and evaluation of some general concepts are given the first part. The classification of the wedding structure and functions according to the compilations and observations is included in the second part. In the last part of the study, Gaziantep marriage ceremonies were evaluated in traditional and contemporary context. Written, oral and electronic resources related to the subject were used.
