Determination of first aid knowledge levels of the teachers working in the primary schools in Gaziantep

ABSTRACTA Thesis For Master DegreeDETERMINATION OF FIRST AID KNOWLEDGE LEVELS OF THETEACHERS WORKING IN THE PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN GAZİANTEPÇiçek ATEŞ SARUHANGAZİANTEP UNIVERSITY INSTITUDE OF HEALTH SCIENCES INTERNALNURSİNG GRADUATION PROGRAMMEAdvisersAsistant Prof. Nimet OVAYOLU Asistant Prof. Cuma YILDIRIMSeptember 2005The goal of this study was to determine and compare the first aid knowledge scoresregarding the veriables such as the age, sex, working duration, education, first aidtraining status of the teachers working in primary schools in Gaziantep city center.The sample of this descriptive study comprimised of the 4972 teachers working in121 primary scholl in Gaziantep city center. 545 teachers chosen by randomizedsampling method from the 29 primary schools chosen by randomized method wereincluded in the study. The data was collected with the questionnaire form preparedby the author and was analyzed by SPSS programme. Percentage calculation and kisquare test were used in the analysis and p<0,05 was accepted as significantlyimportant.There was statistically significant difference between age, sex, working duration,education, first aid training status place of the training and working areas regardingthe first aid knowledge scores of the study group.It was determined that first aid knowledge of the teachers was generally good but thetrue answer percentage to the open-end question decreased significantly. For thisreason, we suggest that first aid training programmes by experts should be conductedperiodically in order to give more sufficient knowledge and make them moreexperienced about first aid.Key words: First aid, Primary school teachers, Knowledge level.
