Abstract (EN)

Exercise addiction, like other types of addiction, can have negative effects on a person's health. It is thought that knowing the levels of exercise addiction among students studying in the faculties of sports sciences will be beneficial in terms of raising awareness about preventing the negativities caused by exercise addiction and taking necessary measures. The aim of this study is to examine the levels of exercise dependence among students of Gaziantep University Faculty of Sport Sciences in terms of various variables. 320 athletes (138 women, 182 men) who have been actively doing sports for at least 1 year from students who are actively studying at the Faculty of Sport Sciences of Gaziantep University were included in the study on a voluntary basis. As a data collection tool; In addition to the questionnaire, in which the demographic characteristics of the participants were questioned, the Exercise Addiction Scale-21 developed by Hausenblas and Symons Downs (2002) was used. The Turkish adaptation of the survey (Exercise Addiction Scale-21), validity and reliability study was carried out by Yeltepe and İkizler (2007). SPSS22 package program was used to analyze the data. Considering the addiction levels of the athletes participating in the study; It is seen that 28.8% of students are asymptomatic, 64.7% are symptomatic and 6.6% are addicted to exercise. Of the volunteers participating in the research; When the relationship between age, height, sports age and body weights and addiction levels is examined; there was only a very low level of negative relationship between age and addiction levels, while no other significance was found in other parameters (p<0,05). As a result, it can be said that exercise addiction is not common among students of Gaziantep University Faculty of Sport Sciences, but the vast majority are at risk. It is thought that informing students about exercise addiction and taking necessary measures will be beneficial in terms of reducing the risk of exercise addiction. It is thought that the application of similar studies to students in different faculties of sports sciences will be beneficial in terms of understanding the general picture.
