ABSTRACTEOSINOPHIL COUNTS IN BLOOD AND NASAL SECRETIONS ANDSKIN PRICK TEST RESULTS IN GAZ ANTEPDetection of alergen in Alergic rhinitis diagnosis and treatment is the most importantstep. Skin prick tests are both cheap and reliable, thus they are the most widely useddiagnostic tools.50 patients with AR, 25 patients with NP, 25 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis(CR)living in Gaziantep were included in this study. These patients were underwent skin prick testto evaluate the alergen sensitivity profile in these groups and that of Gaziantep and so inGaziantep subjects. 25 healty subject were enrolled in the study as the control group(CG).The results of skin prick tests, serum total IgE levels, eosinophil counts serum and nasalsmabs were compared in study groups.The differences in mean total IgE levels between AR group and CR and CP wasstatistically significant(p<0.05). There were statistically significant differences between NPand CG and also NP and CR groups, in terms of mean total IgE levels (p<0.05).Eosinophilia was encountred in nasal smabs of 12 cases in AR group, 6 (%24) casesin NP group, 3 (%12) cases in CR group. There were statistically significant differencesbetween AR and the other three groups (p< 0.05).The pozitivity rates of skin prick test among patient groups were %70 (n=35) in ARgroup, %24 (n=6) in NP group, %12 (n=3) in CR, and %4 (n=2 ) in CG. There werestatistically significant differences between AR and the other three groups in dualcomparasion (p<0.05).The most common alergen in skin prick tests of AR group was grasses-cereals (%32)followed by grasses (%26). The sensivity to mite I, mite II and oat alergens was %14. Themost common alergen in NP group was grasses-cereals %4. None of our cases showedsensivity to yolk, potato, dog epitelia, mould I, maple, aspergillus fumigatus, cow?s milk.The most commonly encountered alergens around Gaziantep were grasses-cereals,grasses mixture , mite and oat. Food alergies, animal hair and fungi do not seem to beimportant. Although these results should be taken into account in designing prick test scaleswe need further studies with larger populations to make our results definite.
