Factors affecting the expectations and satisfactions of pregnant women about prenatal care

Material and Method: The sampling of the present study, which was conducted in descriptive and relationship-seeking design, consisted of pregnant women who applied to the obstetrics clinic of education and research hospital and who came to NST unit. The data of the study were collected between June 2018 and August 2019 by using the "Personal Information Form" and "Scale for Factors Affecting the Expectations and Satisfactions of Pregnant Women about Prenatal Care". Parametric and non-parametric tests were used in the analyses of the data. Result: The average age of the pregnant women who participated in the study was 28.74±5.86 years, and ranged between 18 and 44 years. A total of 85.1% of the pregnant women did not smoke, 82.1% of them had moderate income levels, 88.9% of them lived in elementary families, and 71% of them lived in the city center. A total of 38.5% of the pregnant women had 2 pregnancies, 39.7% did not have any children, 93.1% wanted pregnancy, and the pregnancies of 84% were in the 3rd trimester. The pregnant women, who participated in the study, received 21.29±6.66 points in average from the expectation scale, 7.51±2.95 in the full care sub-dimension, 3.63±1.70 in the continuity of the caregiver, 6.54±2.43 in personalized care, and 3.61±1.67 in other services, which are all sub-dimension of the scale. They received 56.85±17.16 points from the Satisfaction Scale. The participants received 13±4.57 from the knowledge sub-dimension, 10.57±4.07 from the care that was provided by health care staff, 10.77±4.09 from personnel attention, and 22.50±7.45 from system attention, which were all the sub-dimensions of the satisfaction scale. Conclusion: It was determined that the majority of the pregnant women, who participated in the present study, became pregnant willingly, almost all of them received prenatal care, and their average prenatal care satisfaction levels and expectation scale levels were high.
