Abstract (EN)
AIM: OGTT provides the most useful result in the screening and early diagnosis of GDM. Rejection of OGTT among pregnant women is quite common in recent years. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of video presentation about GDM and OGTT on the knowledge level and attitude of pregnant women towards GDM and OGTT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A sample of 400 pregnant women ≤24 weeks who applied to Sakarya Training and Research Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics outpatient clinic were included in this experimental study in 2 groups. A questionnaire was prepared to evaluate the knowledge and attitude towards GDM and OGTT, and the reasons for this attitude. The questionnaire was applied to the control group before the video was started to be shown and to the intervention group 1 month after the video screening started. Participants were not induced to watch the video, therefore intervention group included both video-watching and non-watching participants. The findings were statistically evaluated and compared. RESULTS: The rate of video watchers in the intervention group was 56.5% (n=113). Increased knowledge level and positive attitude towards OGTT were significantly related to video watching status (p<0.05). The rate of positive attitude towards OGTT was 28% in the control group, 35% in the intervention group, 43.4% in the video watchers. The most frequently reported reason for OGTT rejection was "the thought that the baby would be harmed". The positive attitude towards OGTT was significantly higher in those who did not find the definition "sugar loading test" disturbing and who had a history of GDM (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: It is understood that presantation of videos about GDM and OGTT in the outpatient clinic waiting area has a positive effect on the attitude towards having OGTT and helps to increase the knowledge level and awareness about GDM.
