Investigation of serum tenascin-C levels in hypertensive pregnants induced by pregnancy

Abstract (EN)

Hypertansive disorders induced by pregnancy are one of the most common causes of the maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Tenascin-C is an extracellular matrix glycoprotein which is increasing in vascular and tissue injury. The aim of this study was to determine the maternal serum tenascin-C levels in Hypertensive Disorders induced by pregnancy. Totally 80 pregnant women aged between 18-43 years (mean age 30,3 ± 6,6 years),20 normal, 20 mild preeclampsia, 20 severe preeclampsia and 20 pregnant women complicated by HELLP syndromes were included for this study. Serum tenascin-C levels of cases were analyzed by using ELISA method. It was determined that prepartum and postpartum levels of serum tenascin-C were significantly higher in severe preeclampsia group (33,8±11,7 - 50,6±33,8) and mild preeclampsia group (12,8±2,9 - 11,7±1,8) compared to normal pregnant group (5,04±0,3 - 4,9±0,2) (p<0,008). It was determined that prepartum levels of serum tenascin-C were significantly higher in severe preeclampsia group (33,8±11,7 ) compared to mild preeclampsia group (12,8±2,9) and HELLP syndrome group (9,2±1,5) (p<0,008). This study revealed that there was a relation between high serum tenascin-C levels and mild preeclampsia, severe preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome in hypertensive pregnants induced by pregnancy.
