Abstract (EN)

Pregnancy rhinits originating with pregnancy, is a rhinits chart depending on some physiological variations. Unlike other rhinits symptoms, pregnancy rhinits takes place with pregnancy and symptoms of it automatically fade away after two weeks following the end of pregnancy. In the light of this information, the purpose of this study is to investigate the probable effects of pregnancy rhinits to the functions of Eustachii tube and Typanum Resonance Frequency. This study has been conducted in Başkent University Medical Faculty, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Institute of Audiology Speech and Voice Disorder between May and August 2016. This work contains three independent groups two of which are planned as control groups and the other is experiment group.Totally, 45 individuals (90 ears) are assigned in the study. Group 1 consists of pregnants without pregnacy rhinit (n=15), Group 2 consists of pregnants diagnosed with pregnancy rhinits (n=14) and Group 3 consists of healthy non-pregnant individuals (n=16). All the pregnants in this study are comprised of individuals who are at the last three months of their pregnancy (24-40 weeks) and monitored by Başkent University Medical Faculty, Department of Obstetrics and gynaecology Polyclinic. All attendees are applied ear, nose and throat examination, NOSE scale, standart tympanometry and MFT tests. İmmitansmetric and MFT measurements are carried out by using Grason Stadler (GSI) Tympstar Version 2 device. When the average age distribution is examined in this study, groups demonstrates a homogenuous distribution. Lower average RF values are determined for pregnants (Group 1 and Group 2) than non-pregnant healthy individuals; Low average right RF values (764±136 Hz) are observed. In the groups, NOSE scale scorings are mostly lower than 4. When all Individuals' RF values are taken dependent variable and variables such as age, pregnancy, defined pregnancy rhinits, NOSE are taken independent variables, the regression results put forward meaningful correlation in terms of explaining the variations in RF values. Pregnancy rhinits can not be the only factor affecting (decreasing) the tympanum. In order to make definite correlation, another study with many more individuals (attendees) is required. It is also recommended that other potential factors influencing RF (intracranial pressure, harmonic variations and venous pressure etc.) needs to be analyzed to be able to reach definite results about RF variations. In this sense periodic RF measurement can be advised for pregnants during pregnancy. Key Words: Pregnancy, Pregnancy Rhinits, Resonance Frequency, Multifrequency tympanometry.
