Prevalence of domestic violence during pregnancy and risk factors

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The study was conducted to determine the prevalence of domestic violence and associated risk factors in pregnant women. Material and Method: The study is descriptive-cross sectional. The population of the study consisted of pregnant women (N=16295) who applied to the obstetrics clinics of İstanbul University of Health Science Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Research and Training Hospital. The study sample consisted of 748 pregnant women who are willing to participate in the study, which surveyed admitted to the relevant hospital. The data were collected with the "Pregnant Information Form" and "Scale of Domestic Violence Against Women". Findings: It was found that the average age of pregnant women was 28,84±4,60, 43,7% of them were high school graduates and 61,5% were in the third trimester. 29,1% of pregnant women were subjected to domestic violence in any period of their lives. It was determined that the total score average of the Domestic Violence against Women scale of pregnant women was 70,72±8.81 and 19,1% of them got points above the total score average of the scale of Violence against Women in he family. As a result of the multivariate analysis, it was determined that educational status, income perception, marriage year, spouses age, spouses education status, spouses employment status, first gestational age, and week of gestation increased the total scores of the scale of domestic violence against women. Result: The rates of violence reported by the pregnant women are higher than the actuel violence rates determined by the scale, the factors affecting spousel violence are the education status of the women and spouse, the income perception, the year of marriage, the age of spouse, the working status of the spouse, the first gestational age, the week of gestation and the most frequent violence. It has been determined that its types are emotional and verbal violence. Keywords: Woman, Pregnancy, Violence
