Özet (EN)

The Comparison of PUQE(Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis and nausea) Scoring with Physical Examination and Laboratory Findings in Evaluation of the Indications for Inpatient Therapy in Women with Nausea and VomitingAim: We have aimed to compare PUQE scoring with physical examination and laboratory findings in determining the indications of hospitalization for pregnant women suffering from nausea and vomiting and be able to decide hospitalization in a short and practical way without using physical examination and laboratory findings while determining the hospitalization indications.Materials and Methods: The study was conducted from the 1st of July 2008 to 28th of February 2009 by evaluating the women who had singleton viable pregnancy less than 14 weeks of gestation with nausea and vomiting and who admitted to our institution. PUQE query was applied with the clinical and laboratory assessment. Women who treated in the hospital or not were compared in point of view of the PUQE score and the body mass index (BMI). Student-t test and ki-square tests were used for evaluation of the differences between the groups.Findings: The results of 250 women who were eligible were investigated during the study period. The mean of the age, BMI, the gestational age and PUQE score were 27.9 ±5.5 (17?42); 24.94±4.6 (16?44); 9.3±2.4 (3?14); 6.26±3.54 (3-15) respectively. The age, gestational age, gravidity and parity were similar between the women who treated in the hospital and who did not. But BMI is found significiantly lower (p=0.016) and PUQE score is found significiantly higher (p=0.000) with the women who has been hospitalizated because of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. When comparing the PUQE scoring system to the physical examination it was found the rate of sensitivity 96.34%, the rate of specificity 80.23%, positive predictive value 92% and negative predictive value 90.28%.Results: Lost on the BMI and increasing of the PUQE score was found in a tight correlation with the hospitalization. PUQE scoring is an efficient tool for detecting the severeness of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy and it can also be used to determine the hospitalization indications for the women who are suffering from nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.Key words: Nausea, vomiting, pregnancy, hospitalization, PUQE scoring system
