Abstract (EN)
Industrial activities, one of the basic dynamics of urbanization, are influential in the development and shaping of a city. The Organized Industrial Regions (OIRs), which were put into practice after 1960's, especially to discipline industrial areas and to spread them throughout the country, have also been very effective in the development of cities. In the study investigating these spatial effects, the distribution of industrial and industrialization and Organized Industrial Regions in Turkey and in the world have been examined. Gebze, which was the first OIR in 1990 and owned 3 Organized Industrial Region and 2 industrial sites as of 2017, is now known as an industrial city. In Gebze's industrial city identity, not only the OIRs within their borders but also the OIRs in the neighboring provinces and districts were effective. In this study, the geographical change of Gebze Organized Industrial Region (GOSB) and its immediate surroundings from 1990 to 2016, which is Gebze's largest OIR, has been determined and human and physical geographical factors which are effective in this change have been emphasized and necessary solution proposal has been revealed.
