Additional contribution of diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging in patients with transient ischemic attack to the risk scores to predict stroke

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this retrospective study was to validate the predictive value of ABCD, ABCD2, ABCDI scores in identifying the 2nd, 7th and 30th day stroke in patients presenting to the ED with symptoms suggestive of TIA and the association of these scores with diffusion-weighted MRI and stroke. Among 54 eligible patients, the mean age was 60.2±18 and 26 (48.1%) of the study population was male. The incidence of stoke at 7 and 30 days were 14.3% and 14.3% respectively. The presenting neurological symptoms were: unilateral weakness in 24 (4.4%) patients, speech disturbance in 12 (22.2%) patients and other symptoms in 15 (27.8%) patients. The mean delay between noncontrast computer brain tomography and diffusion weighted MRI was 34.4±25.8 and 249±210 minutes respectively. ABCD, ABCD2, ABCDI scores were not predictive of 2nd, 7th and 90th day stroke in patients presenting to the ED with symptoms suggestive of TIA There was no association between California, ABCD, ABCD2 scores and positive results with diffusion weighted MRI. We could not detect an association between ABCD, ABCD2, ABCDI scores and the decision to hospitalize the patients. There was no association between the presenting symptoms of patients and positive results with diffusion weighted MRI. California, ABCD, ABCD2 scores were not predictive of stroke within 2nd, 7th and 30th day after symptoms suggestive of TIA. California, ABCD, ABCD2 scores were not predictive of positive diffusion weighted MRI result.
