Investigation of the effect of permeability on mechanical properties of concrete

Abstract (EN)

For concrete, which is used as the most common building material today, the void less and impermeable form is very important in terms of durability. It is required to have a low permeability value of the concrete to be able to protect the produced concrete from harmful effects during its service life. In this study, some experiments such as compressive strength under the effect of poor and well gradation, tensile splitting strength, and the depth of penetration of water under pressure were conducted for the mixtures prepared in four different water/cement ratios (0.4-0.5-0.6-0.7). On the 28th day, permeability and strength tests were carried out on 96 samples prepared as standard cylinders and cubes. In addition, both 7th and 28th day permeability tests were performed on samples with two different compressive strengths (C16-C50). In this study, it is seen that there is a significant relationship between the mechanical properties of concrete and permeability parameters. The lowest penetration depth was obtained in a mixture of well-graded crushed stone and water / cement ratio of 0.4.
